Gobble Gobble Gobble

SO.....here's a super fun and easy craft/kiddie project for Thanksgiving. You will LOVE it. :)

"Ingredients" are super simple:

• Double Stuff Oreos (one per treat)
• "bodies" - can be Ferrero Rocher Candy, Peanut Clusters, Chocolate drops, etc (I'll explain this later)
• Small red tube of icing
• Chocolate frosting
• Candy Corn

Because you're working with so much goodness, it's a great idea to also have some snacks for yourself:

Okay, so first take an Oreo: Unscrew it. I always go for the Double Stuffed because they are remarkably easier to unscrew without breaking them:
It doesn't really matter how "clean" you do it but the more even you do it the better. Next, frost the inside of both sides with Chocolate Frosting:
On one of the halves, place 5 candy corn in a fan:

On the other half, place the body. I was using Chocolate Drops cause they were cheapest. (WHAT?!?)

***Key thing - put the body off center - pretty close to the edge of the Oreo*** Here's both parts:
Next, take one candy corn and frost it up a little on one of the edges. This is the "glue" for the head so be generous, but make it pretty. ;) Frosting should look like this: Center the head on the body and adhere the "feathers" to the body (at the part where you stuck it close to the edge.) Again, the frosting is acting as your glue so if it's not sticking well, add a little frosting and hold it for a second.

Next you can add some eyes and a gobbler. My turkey looks a little pathetic, but that's okay. Jason happened to have some peanut clusters so I made one that way just so you can see what a difference the bodies make:
The head stays on MUCH better with these! These are my 2nd favorite bodies to use when making these.
My absolute FAVORITE bodies are Ferrero Rocher candies, because they taste pretty darn good, but they are a little spendy and you do need to unwrap them. Check Bartell's for sales, though!

He is a turkey-making machine, I tell you. He is much faster than I am (and I've had years of practice!) My turkey farm (transport is hard, but if you can let them sit for a few hours, it will go MUCH better.)
So yeah - very fun! I love to make these with kids cause it's super easy!

Teddy

This one time...I was at a scrappy hour...

Ha - just kidding - not gonna tell it like that. So Asia, Marla and I were at a scrappy hour and some other lady there came in and was like "Someone got a gift on their car!"

We all thought - oh...cute...and then Marla said "Becky, it's YOUR car!" So I went out and found this:
And just about the cutest card ever. We were still fairly early in the relationship and hadn't said the L word yet, so the "I heart you" was perfect, plus I love red, I love hoodies, and it was cute. :)

Last week Jason took his best friend to the Seahawks game VS. the 49ers (Monday Night Football) and when they got back, Jason pulled this out for me:

Inked

So I've become a big fan of the shows LA Ink and Miami Ink. I don't know why, but it's an infatuation.

I think part of the infatuation is the fact that I admire people that can put one (or more) pictures/symbols/words/people on their bodies forever when I can't even decide on the same image for 2 weeks at a time.

I used to want to get this as a tattoo: Partly because I think it's the story of my life: always coming to a point where I have to choose. But I couldn't imagine having a road sign tattooed on me, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized I liked this type of image: or even this:
So, like the road sign, I still have to make choices. It's like my life has been the trunk and I have branches and branches and branches to decide from, but if I go left at the first branch I will probably never make it to the top. If I wait for the top branches, I may very well be sacrificing all the branches I pass along the way.

Lately I've been thinking of a different symbolizm too - when you see a tree like this, usually we just think it's the end of fall/winter and that the tree will blossom again come spring. So it's kinda a reminder that seasons change, when it feels like all is lost and you're down to the last ounce of yourself - spring is coming. It's a choice to continue. It's a choice to make season just as beautiful as the last, but in the meantime I'm stronger. The sucky thing is that when you feel the least beautiful, that's when the weather hits you hardest.

No, I did not get a tree tattoo.

But I thought about it.

I actually joked with my parents about it too. I didn't explain to them all the symbolism or anything (which I'm sure would have made lots more sense) but I talked to them. My dad hates the idea of a tattoo (surprise) and my mom just wants me to not do something that I'd regret. And I still can't commit. ;)

There's always the idea stolen from the Cabbage Patch Kid guy- every Cabbage Patch Kid has the signature of the creator on the butt. I told my parents I should have them sign their names and I could do the same. ;) They liked that better than the barcode idea, but still weren't crazy about it. ;)

We'll have to see...

My favorite flower

On Friday, Jason surprised me with 5 stocks of my favorite flower, Birds of Paradise.

Wanna know a secret? I've never gotten Birds of Paradise before. That's my favorite. :)

Halloween (only a few weeks late)

So Halloween did happen this year (contrary to what my blog may have lead you to believe) and we did celebrate. Sorta. ;)
